Welcome to Soldotna, Alaska.

Soldotna is a city located in Kenai Peninsula Borough, Alaska. As of the 2000 census, the population of the city is 3,759. It is the seat of the Kenai Peninsula Borough. Where the Kenai River flows through a vital community which provides a safe, friendly home; where citizens take pride and responsibility for their extraordinary quality of life; visitors feel welcome and aspire to return. Soldotna is one of the few places in the United States where the epic saga of Western expansion, homesteading, land clearing, road building, civic growth, and development have occurred within the lifetime of most long-term residents. The parents of the many Soldotna civic leaders homesteaded here after World War II, helped construct the Sterling Highway and the bridge over the Kenai River, and actively participated in the growth and development of the community.

Soldotna's seasonal population varies widely, expanding during the summer season to accommodate recreationists and tourists. In fact, on busy summer weekends, the entire population of the Kenai Peninsula Borough can more than double as Anchorage-area recreationists descend to the Kenai for fishing and other outdoor activities.
Fishing opportunities include not only the Kenai River for King, Sockeye, and Silver Salmon throughout the summer season, but also easy access to nearby Cook Inlet for Halibut and numerous lakes and streams for Trout, Dolly Varden, and other species. Sightseeing and hiking are available within and around Soldotna. Lands open for snow machining and cross-country skiing trails are readily accessible. Soldotna's beauty is shared through our many parks. We have more river city parks within the City's boundary than anywhere else in Alaska. With over 2,800 feet of elevated boardwalk and over 200 campsites, you will understand why Soldotna is a favorite playground for Alaskans.
The City operates the Soldotna Sports Center with an Olympic-sized hockey rink for skating and hockey for eight months of the year. A home show and other events are hosted within its arena as well. The Center also has meeting rooms and kitchen facilities for private and public events.
